Greetings,
Allow me to introduce myself.
I am Mercenary of the International Information Retrieval Guild (IIRG),
a hacker collective started in the early 80's.
Due to health concerns on my part, I essentially dropped off the face of the earth around 2002. After some urging by ex-members who saw my recuperation, I once again activated the IIRG several months ago.
As I recuperated, I started IIRGlabs. A location of my own ownership, only IIRG members are permitted access due to theft and piracy concerns. As I'm sure you're aware, one of the biggest issues in having a "hackers space" is to trust the individuals involved. Allowing physical access to a location is a matter that you as an individual must decide.
There has been much talk of Hacker Spaces, which for the most part are closed, private spaces that do not foster wider community participation. This is a good and bad thing for the community.
To foster wider community participation, we envisioned IIRGnet. A computer network intended to allow general communication between hackers in a secure environment. By utilizing Waste we have encrypted, private communication between distant parties on the Internet, independent of local network organization. This also allows us to share our extensive and ever growing library of information going back to the early eighties.
Many of my fellow members think it's a pipe dream to link hacker spaces in a collaborative network. On this one issue I hope to remain optimistic that there are still enough individuals who want to share information.
We hope you can see the benefits of operating a network node. We can share information privately and fostering wider community participation without compromising physical security.
We hope to hear from you.
Mercenary/IIRG
